EYFS

Important information for new starters in September and general EYFS information.

Welcome to the EYFS at Down Ampney Primary School. Our Reception children join us as part of Class 1, which is also made up of Year 1 and Year 2 children. We follow the ambitions of the Development Matters to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage, as well as ensuring that the children are ready to join Year 1 when the time comes.

We understand that it is a big change for both children and parents when you start school, so we are passionate about ensuring that the transition is as smooth as possible for the whole family. Once you have accepted your Reception place with us, we offer settling in sessions throughout the whole of the Summer term, for whenever suits you best. We encourage parents to choose some days with the rest of the new children, however also see the value in your child getting to know the rest of the children in the class who they will also spend their days with once they start.

During settling sessions we offer a variety of play and activities both inside and outside, to help us get to know your child best and to give them a chance to share their knowledge and interests with us.

When September comes, we offer two half days at the beginning of term to help get your child settled into the school routine, before becoming full time from day 3. We do understand that this transition can be difficult for some children, therefore we are also happy to discuss alternative days and arrangements with individual parents if this is what will suit to help get your child school ready.
